The adventures of Dorothy, a Kansas farm girl who grows up with her uncle and aunt,
begin at the moment when a dangerous tornado sweeps over the farm, flinging Dorothy and her dog Toto into the faraway land of the Munchkins. The farmhouse lands on the Wicked Witch of the East, of all people, and events take their adventurous course. Although the red shoes of the Wicked Witch of the East give Dorothy magical powers, the most difficult trials must be overcome. But Dorothy is not alone: on her journey she meets a scarecrow whose most ardent wish is to have a real brain instead of just straw in his head. The pair also meet a rusty tin man who longs for a heart, and a very cowardly lion. Together they tread the path to the mysterious Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City to help Dorothy find her way back home. Again and again they are threatened by the Wicked Witch of the West, and the Wizard of Oz is not what he seems… But the group shows heart, intelligence and courage and reach their destination in the end.
Together with Nina Moebius, the musical outreach director of the Vienna Volksoper, the children and their teachers attend a behind-the-scenes workshop, and then experience how this marvellous story is brought to life on stage especially for them!
